Frequently Asked Questions

Why do professionals need engagement letters?
Engagement letters protect both the professional and the client by clearly defining the scope, fees, and responsibilities. They are required by many professional standards (auditing, legal ethics) and reduce the risk of misunderstandings and malpractice claims.
Can the scope of the engagement change after signing?
Yes, but changes should be documented through a written amendment or a new engagement letter. Never expand the scope informally, as this can create liability without corresponding compensation.
What happens if the client does not provide required documents on time?
The engagement letter addresses this by making the client responsible for timely cooperation. Delays may result in extended timelines, additional fees, or the firm's inability to meet regulatory deadlines. Document all delays in writing.
